Survey of State Laws

Marijuana remains classified as a Schedule I substance under the Controlled Substances Act, meaning it is illegal under federal law. However, 33 states and the District of Columbia have passed or enacted comprehensive medical marijuana programs allowing marijuana use by patients with certain medical issues.

This Survey provides a brief overview of jurisdictions with statutory and regulatory provisions legalizing limited access medical marijuana programs to treat several medical conditions.

This report briefly explains and contrasts the specifics of fatal overdose review panels in the six states that have established such panels as of late 2017.
