Akshara Menon, J.D., M.P.H. serves as a senior legal fellow with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Public Health Law Program (PHLP). Ms. Menon collaborates with public health professionals to explore the relationship between public health and the law. She specializes in legal research, analysis and writing to provide technical assistance to public health attorneys, policy makers, practitioners, and researchers on the state, tribal, local, and territorial level. She leads legal research projects on health system transformation, prescription drug overdose prevention, and emergency antiviral distribution.
Ms. Menon is an active member of the State Bar of Connecticut. She earned her J.D. from Emory University School of Law in 2007 and her M.P.H. from Yale School of Public Health in 2009. At Yale, Ms. Menon received Honors for her M.P.H. thesis entitled “Law as a Tool to Influence Public Health Policy: A Comparative Analysis of Zoning Law in South Los Angeles Versus Calorie-Labeling Law in New York City to Address Obesity.” She also served as an Article Editor for the Yale Journal of Health Policy, Law, and Ethics. Her employment experience includes the American Medical Association and World Health Organization where she gained significant research and writing experience in health policy and law on both a national and global scale. She earned her Bachelors of Arts in Political Science and International Studies from Northwestern University in 2003.
