Navigating the Food Safety Modernization Act — Resources for State and Local Governments

The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) revolutionized food safety in the U.S. by placing a new focus on our nation’s ability to prevent food contamination, while strengthening our ability to respond to outbreaks. Implementation of the FSMA has created a range of concerns that speak to the law’s complexity, and will impact state and local governments in critical ways.

FDA’s Proposed Regulation of Additional Tobacco Products Missing Critical Components

The FDA recently took an important step to regulating additional tobacco products by starting the process to bring e-cigarettes, cigars, dissolvable products and hookah under its authority. While this is a landmark in federal tobacco regulation, many in public health believe the proposed regulation falls short in a number of important areas.
